The Remedy Windows client software is forward and backward compatible (mostly), so the version that you choose is not tightly dictated by the server version. NC State is currently running version 5.1.2. If you are utilizing a version of the Remedy Windows User Tool that precedes version 5, you will not be able to take full advantage of the NC State Remedy system. Our implementation utilizes server features that are not understood by earlier versions.
This document describes the installation and configuration of version 5 of the Remedy Windows User tool.
Obtaining the Windows User Tool
The supported versions of the Remedy Windows User Tool can be downloaded
from the Remedy Project web site Downloads page:
http://remedy.ncsu.edu/project/downloads/
Installing the Windows User Tool
The Remedy Windows User Tool is installed using the installed obtained from the downloads page as described above. During the Windows client installation process you will be prompted for the name of the Remedy server. In our environment, the Remedy server is know as remedy.ncsu.edu. The remaining fields can be left blank.
Later in the installation process you have the option to also install the Crystal Report Engine libraries and associated ODBC drivers. You may safely omit these optional components unless you plan to utilize Crystal Reports or some other ODBC-based reporting tools as part of your Remedy reporting strategy.
Windows Vista users may want to consider installing version 7 of the Remedy Windows User Tool. This is the only version of the Remedy Windows User Tool that has been certified for Vista by the vendor although the version 5 User Tool seems to work just fine under Vista.
